Are those pockets to retain the tool holder instead of a drawbar?
I'm surprised to see a South Bend mill using a metric taper, especially given its vintage. It would have caused a walk-out on the factory floor
LOL, yes the set screws are in place of a draw bar....
hmmm - so I'm guessing that there isn't a through hole to facilitate a drawbar then?
no, there is no draw bar, it uses two set screws to lock the taper up into the spindle

Perhaps it is the size of the image but in comparing this picture with one of my NTMB30 shell mill holder below, the tapers look different:

The drive slots in the flange are not visible in this picture but they are there. Also, the threaded section at the top looks like it will need to be removed too.
I will have to do more searching, I've read some posts where guys modified the 30ntmb by cutting pockets for the set screws, they didnt mention any other mods but from your photo they do look very different.

Reading beneath the NTMB info, there is some text regarding their compatibility with the The Erickson QC system, which based on their description, sounds like yours. Interestingly, the NTMB taper was patented in the early 1930s (I what I have very quickly scim read is correct).
Thanks, I'll check that out. I have some collets for it but im gonna need a arbor for a drill chuck and maybe a couple other items
Nice job and great color. I'm really glad it's not green anymore (says the man with the green DoAll mill).
