It's time to upgrade the 8520. I want to start back on the P&W 1830 Radial and need more height. I am going to fabricate and install a 4" Riser Block to extend the spindle to table distance from 15 3/8" to 19 3/8". Here is the preliminary print.

Material -- Center tube DOM 1020 6.5 OD X 5.250 ID X 3.0 long. Upper and lower flanges 1018 7.250 OD X 1.0 long

As always, wood comes before metal. Mistakes cost less. Rotfl

I will clean it up tomorrow and see how it fits. Better to find out now if it needs to be longer or shorter.

So, I'm a sloppy eater. LOL Gonna fit that ring today. I just need to add the locating pins. I have material either ordered (Pip - DOM 1020) anr the flanges 7.500 dia 1018. to make 4 of these. Two are already spoken for.

Bill,

That looks like a worthwhile project. I have a riser block in the Jet JVM 836 milling machine and feel its almost a necessity. It was a Grizzly piece (#H8107) , that was sold for their #G6760 milling machine, which is very similar to the Jet and had to be slightly modified to work. I made a couple of the riser blocks for the 6" x 26" milling machines (Grizzly, Enco, Busy Bee, etc) for some friends.

This is why I use wood instead of steel for a model. It has more distance but still falls 1" short of what I am after. Saved a few bucks here. Blush

Good idea prototyping in wood. It certainly was well worthwhile this time for sure. Thumbsup

It's harder to explain a mistake to the War Department than it is to a Supervisor. Wait, is there really a difference? Rotfl

Interesting prototype, good use of a wooden one first to check things out.
