Thanks Willie. I had a few things in my shopping cart last night but decided to take a couple out and then I decided not to submit the order so left the stuff in the shopping cart. The 30% off convinced me to add back the items I took out.

Well I'm glad you held off Ed. Thumbsup

I've been wanting a good CNC point live center for the lathe for a couple of years now, but couldn't afford it. But I couldn't pass up an opportunity to knock off $129 from the price of one today either..... Drool
The latest addition to the collection. It will be nice to have some room to work with and not jam a tool post into the big bulky import live center. (2nd from top.)

Wow! You went for the full Monty! A Royal live center is only a dream for me. I ended up getting a similar live center from Enco but it was a no-name made in the USA model.

I paid $120 for that one a couple of years ago and now I see it's up to almost $200. Yikes

Oh, and You Suck

Ed
I was ready to order that very same USA made center you have Ed. But after reading the one online review on the Enco site, I changed my mind.

I had a similar "flex" problem with the huge import center I have. And then the bearings in it locked up on me. I tore it apart and replaced the Chinese skate bearings with some quality bearings from Japan. But it's still a pain to get to the end of work with that massive body in the way.

Royal lists that center for $499!!! Jawdrop
Enco wanted $430 but after the 30% I got it for $301. I figured if the USA brand was going for close to $200 now anyway, it was almost a no-brainer.

Plus, I wanted a GOOD center for doing some barrel work anyway. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Big Grin
Willie,

That was a wise decision. That Royal center will last you a lifetime.

I haven't noticed any flex in my center but then I don't normally take huge cuts with my lathe. I'll have to watch for it though. The reviewer says he only uses it for light cuts now. I think he must have gotten a bad one since the center is certainly capable of withstanding much more than just light cuts. Oh well, mine does what I bought it for so I'm happy with it.

Ed
Willie, I'd kill for a live centre like that! And at those high prices I'd have too. Rotfl

That's not saying much considering how much time I probably have left....

Yeah, I would say chances are very good that the Enco reviewer just got a bad center from the get-go, but with my luck I didn't want to take a chance. I'm already stuck with 2 Morse taper reamers from Enco that couldn't cut a stick of butter. Money wasted. Sad

Or could it be that the reviewer is expecting too much from his center? Who knows? Chin

But I'll feel a lot better knowing I'll have a center that is up to the task now of staying where it is supposed to. (Guaranteed TIR of 0.00005") I've been holding off on some projects because keeping the inside and outside concentric is pretty important.
