A few weeks ago while milling a few Pullmax die jigs out of aluminum, the table jumped bucked moved in a way that it isn't supposed to do. Now I've had this for 20-25 years and really haven't done much other than keep lubed. So since it did it while turning the hand crank on the right I thought I'd look there 1st. Plus the dial needed a good cleaning! Well here is what I found.... lower two screws were real loose!

I looked online and found a retainer for less than 20$ shipped, So I pulled the collar.

installed the proper collar

the handle, nuts, dial went into a bucket of water and oxalic acid to remove any rust

Then when dried coated with a satin clear acrylic finish

reassembled and that part is done

Still have to get my boy to help with the backlash and jib adjustments, then we will see if it is back to normal????

Nice fix. I have to do something with mine, as the chrome plating is rusted and peeling in places. I need to figure out how best to approach them.
has chrome plating gotten expensive in the last 10 years or so down under?
Would you happen to know a "pommie" Clive Ross aka the Hammerworks in Perth.
Spent a few hour's reading the Aussie Slang Dictionary to chat with him over the years.
Name doesn't ring a bell. I recall a friend getting a bumper re-chromed and it cost a fair bit.
