Tom,

When you get a chance, could you please post a picture of the top of the press? I need to make or buy one soon and could use all of the ideas I can get.

Thanks,
Ed
Here are thi pics of the top end of my press, it is now about 25 yrs old and has never let me down. I like this design it is very stable under pressure, I have used it with lots of pressure and things let go with loud bang as the bearing or piece lets go. I or my staff in the towing company never managed to hurt it. I would copy it or buy another in a heartbeat. tom

Excuse the dust the top bar is 2 inch square, the vertical rods are 3/4 inch in dia, the plate the jack sits on is 3/8 inch, the shaft under the jack is 2 inch dia with a hardened foot, the springs are about 2.5 or 3 inch and could be rescued from coil over shocks and I think all the channel is 5 inch. The moveable support that you place the workpiece on is reinforced with what appears to be 3/8 x5 flat for about 3/4 of the way across, this is welded on one side to the inside bottom of the channel and the other side on a diagonal is just below top surface. Hope this helps. tom
Nice design Tom.

It is a commercial design I think made by HEIN WERNER. tom
Tom,

That is a clever one, someone put quite a bit of thought in to it.SmileSmileSmile

Tom,

Sorry about the late response, I didn't see your post until this evening. What is the jack for that sits on top to the left of the working jack?

Thanks,
Ed
That is one of 2 20 ton air operated bottle jacks I use when lifting my truck, also handy when doing heavy pushes with the press. tom
