I made this a few years back for my SBL 10K and use it everynow and then. It works really well and it can be built many different ways. I used the round rollers because i had them on hand but square cut will work just fine. The same way with the sine bar on the back i used round but square would be just fine even flat bar will work. Very nice taper attachment. It looks fairly simple too. I assume you have to take the cross slide lead-screw out when using the taper attachment. Is that correct? It appears so from the pictures.

I have a question regarding the mounting of a taper attachment and my smithy. It appears that the device attaches to the way on the back side of the lathe? if that is the case how would I go about installing one on my smithy? It has dove tail ways.

It doesn't have to attach to the ways. As a matter of fact, most of them don't. They usually bolt to the back of the lathe. My lathe has the threaded holes for attaching one but I don't have the taper attachment.

You could drill and tap a hole on the end of your 3 in 1 combo i assume? for the bracket. The harder part would be removing the cross slide screw so the compound floats on the sine bar...Bob

Yes it is removed so the compound just floats on the sine bar...Bob
