It's coming along fine Rob.

Forging? I think mine is described more as roughsmithing. ;-) but as my old metalwork teacher used to say "All cold blacksmiths go to hell". I have one lathe I can "get too" and also a pillar drill, and a H mill if I am pushed, but I must admit some days I just have to do some engineering as an antidote to all the building work. Seeing the workshop rising out of the ashes is rewarding in itself, but it isn't what I really want to do........ But at least when it is done it will be warm, dry, and much less embarrassing.

Hi Lads I am back ,back in the shop

Had to have two days to recover from my holiday ,so just grabbed an hour in the shop tonight .

Decided to just finish the hub in the lathe , first up cut the key way .




The unscrew the chuck with the job still in it and mount the dividing head . Drill/tap the three holes for the fan disc .



Spin dividing head 90 deg and drill for set screw .

Hi Rob , good to see you back on the project. with the keyway attachment how long does it take to cut the keyway ? , I mean is it a very high number of really slight cuts or can it take a decent cut per stroke ? Another do dad well worth making I dare say .... more on my to do one day list

Hi Mick , total time including setup is about 5 to 10 minutes , It really is quick once the slotter is bolted to the slide , I do not need to remove the top slide,i just did for photo clarity . Put it this way its quicker/cheaper than a broach , also dose tapers , I have used it to do tapered splines for a steering wheel boss , also dial graduations etc

Ed , there well worth the time to make one , good tool project too , if you need drawings lets no .
