A guy up the road from me brought in his flintlock ML and said the breech plug was stripped out. He had worked on it with a hacksaw and some fishing line. So i need to figure out the thread in the bore to restore it then make a new breech plug from scratch. And yes that is a chopped off brass powder measure pounded in the plug. Don't know why but its there. More pics to come...Bob
That would hurt if it blew out YikesYikesYikes

Wow! I'm impressed the owner didn't hurt himself. Good thing he had enough sense to at least turn it over to you.

Going to have to re thread the ml barrel as it has triple start threads and is metric. Going to make it something standard i can work with...Bob

Haven't tried multiple start threads yet, the Summit has some sort of indexing plate built into the back of the spindle for up to 10 start threads. Been a while since I had the cover open but I think its a plate on the spindle and a pin system to lock the first gear in the drive. Simply index it over to move the start of the next thread.
Aw c'mon Greg, ya just engage the half nuts in between numbers (if you can) .
I guess it depends on the lead screw pitch and what its gearbox can provide.
I recently made a multi start thread Slaphead
See how easy it is! Rotfl

On V Kay until the 2nd of September so i went to the shop to work on the ML. Made a new breech plug and threaded the barrel. My camera died so here are the barrel drilling pics and how i did it. There could be a zillion ways to do what i did but this was the easiest for me....Bob

Pic 1 1/2 pin in the bore to line the barrel up
Pic 2 jig holding the barrel to the t slot cross slide.
Pic 3 Using my steady rest to hold up the end of the barrel. Yes you can hold an octagon just don't turn the machine on. The barrel will slide L-R as i am drilling and tapping it just won't turn.
Pic 4 Drilling out the old 4 start metric threads with a 4 flute 5/8" drill.
Pic 5 Drilling 11/16
Pic 6 Tapping 3/4-16
