Hi all the holidays are over so it-s back to the shop.
The next job was to cut the shafts to length and fit the retaining screws.

[attachment=15059]

Then the pulleys had to be pined to the shafts to do this I used a 1mm drill and a 1mm end mill , the pin was cut from a length of pivot steel.

Drill the shaft

Mill the slot

Fit the pin

And assemble

The gears can now be fitted in the case.

Hi Brian,

Good to see you back. It must have been a heck of a holiday. :)

It's nice to see I'm not the only one using magnification on their machines. It must have been a relief to get those little pins in their places.

Tom
Hi Tom
We spend the summers on our boat lazily going nowhere in particular, this year we spent 3 weeks in Syracuse one of my favourite
places, Birth place of Archimedes and just full of history.
Temps hit 45°c just a bit to hot for me but my wife loved it. Last time we had it that hot was on Clear lake in Texas.
Continuing with  the engine. the next part involved lots of parting off.

The pulley blanks

The inner flanges

And the outer flanges that also time the ignition.

The bosses were machined -drilled an tapped then assembled.

Now it's back to the engine to get all five cams turning.

Very nice Brian.

It must have been exciting to watch the valve train operate for the first time! Thumbsup

Tom
The next job was to get the belt tensioners made and shape the back plate.
so here is the video.

Enjoy

4 more guide rollers to make and then it's time to start thinking about the other side and all the inside.
the rear mounted oil pump will come later.

After a depressing year with very little time in the shop,

Been wondering what happened to the radial Brian, great to see you back. The voice description is a welcome addition too.
Hey Brian. Good to see you back!

There is nothing more elegant in machining than watching a part take shape on the rotary table.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi All
At last I have a little progress, the link rods,  pins, and the retaining plates are made so I can now assemble the master rod, one of the things that in my view marks a big step forward just to have it sitting on the desk gives me pleasure.

Brian.
