Full Version: Worth getting recalibrated?

I have a Starett 216 digital micrometer I got on eBay for a reasonable price. (I just can't see well enough to read a vernier anymore.) As near as I can tell, it reads about .003 off. Is this something I can fix, or should it go back to Starett? They charge a heck of a lot to do anything!

Or, should I just try to remember whether to add or subtract?   Rotfl
On all the micrometers that I've used, there has always been a facility for zeroing the reading when it is closed or on a standard bar. On that one I imagine that the thimble is able to be slackened, then turned and relocked
I have a Mitutoyo mechanical digital micrometer and had Holts Precision "recondition" it, they're a private repair/calibration company up here in the New England area. I would probably have been able to retire earlier if I had priced having the manufacturer do it.

Just sayin'....
