Nice work there Wong - well done.

Bob - I never knew a spot drill wasn't suppose to be used for marking a centre with.
Mayhem, I learnt that from this exercise. The spot drill has an angle of 90 or 120 (the 2 in my box). The live centre I've is 60 degree.

Regards,
Wong
Yes, but for centre drilling where you are going to then drill the hole larger (using drill bits), I wouldn't have seen any issues. Perhaps I misunderstood what Bob was referring to.
I find the spot drill centre the subsequent drill nicely. What bob was referring to was my mistake in using the live centre to centre the job in the 4-jaw chuck. The spot drill mark made the exercise tough. Centre drill would be easier.

Wong
Ahhh - I missed that. Good thing I asked!

Hi Wong

If your griping the screw by the thread to shorten it ,use a split nut, make a saw cut through one of the flats on the nut ,then screw in screw, then grip nut in chuck have saw cut beteween two jaws, the saw cut will alow the nut too close up gripping the threads tight.

Message sent using phone. Really hard to use lol

Rob.
Thanks Rob. Why didn't I think of that! Read about it some times ago. Just didn't struck me.

Wong

Hi Dave,

Thought I was banned... Just kidding. Rotfl bad one I guess but I'm amused by the reason why some folks gotten their ban from the other side.

I am distracted from playing with metal at this moment. Been playing with my 3D printer. This little machine is so addictive. My kids love what it can do.

The collet chuck is still on the flange of the lathe, waiting for the last few operations. I'll get to it soon.

One update, Wabeco has just informed me (yesterday) that my mill is ready to be shipped! I'm learning how to TT the payment over so that they can start flying it over. I'm excited!!!

Regards,
Wong
Cool Wong. Just remember, we demand pictures once you get the mill. Big Grin
