I've been using LibreOffice since they first released it. I even use it at work and then just convert the files to Microsoft Office when I need to share them with colleagues. Desktop is Cinnamon. I think it's Linux Mint's proprietary desktop. I like it because they made it similar to Windoze 7 which is the version of Windoze I have. It sure is a lot snappier than Windoze.

I also just did a clean install on my Mac today.

It's interesting: I used to do Mac IT, and today's install took much longer than "back in the day of OS9", but the process couldn't have been simpler.

As usual, it's the rest of the software that's taking forever.

I watched with this video to get started.

The forum is a real good source of help. I've got a thread in the forum helping me over some humps when making that model in my first post of this thread.

Thanks Ed. I've been looking at FreeCAD for a while now, but it's the same blank look each time. The links will help tremendously.

That video really helped. Thanks for posting it. At first I was expecting the guy to yell "YOU VILL LEARN FREECAD!"

Well, this is my first try with FreeCAD. Actually took a few tries before I got it, but I couldn't find a way to export it as a jpeg and the print and pdf options only give a blank page. Not what I was hoping for but I may have missed something.

I have a 3' x 6' table in the middle of the shop. It's taking up too much space AND 3x6 is one helluva horizontal surface, and we all know what horizontal surfaces are good for!

This drawing is what will replace that surface. The top will be 3x3, it'll be on rollers and my mini wood lathe will be on a tilt up on the side. This is the back side of it, The top 4 holes are for drawers, the bottom one is open space for things like chucks, the rotary table, etc. The big heavy stuff. The front side only has 3 drawers but the space in the bottom is larger.

In the "Tools" menu there's a selection "Save as Picture", or something like that.

The reason I happen to know about this is ... wait for it ... I installed Linux Mint to one of my machines in late February and yes, it was the infected version. Interesting in that I installed the 32 bit version to a laptop and the 64 bit version to a desktop on the same day. The 32 bit version was fine but the 64 bit version was infected. I learned about the issue when I did a software update of the 64 bit version. The updater said "it is infected" and would not proceed. I wiped the drive and reinstalled and all is well.
