Hello,

A bit of a boring question, but can anybody recommend Headstock & Gearbox oil for this lathe? Shell Tellus 27 is recommended in the manual but no longer available.

Is this a suitable alternative?: https://www.cromwell.co.uk/shop/lubrican...HL7408100A

Hi Jason,

That looks OK to me but I am no expert. Generally, I contact the local lubrication company and ask the sales rep if they can recommend something equivalent to the original spec. I've always been able to find something suitable this way.

Not sure if this will help but take a look at the oils used for lubricating Myfords, H32 for the headstock and H 68 for gearbox and power feeds. They are readily available and may be suitable for the Bantam
I found this information as replacements for the Shell Tellus 27.

Shell Tellus Oil 37 (Formerly Tellus Oil 27)

Mobil Oil Company Ltd
Mobil DTE Oil Light (VG. 32)

Esso Petroleum Company Ltd
Teresso 32

BP Oil Ltd
Bp Energol HLP 32

Hope this helps.
