I ordered five R8 collets from Wholesale Tools. The brand I ordered was RDX which is supposed to be their "superior import" brand with less TIR than their cheaper imports. What I got was not a single RDX branded collet. Two were in boxes branded Lyndex, although I think only one of them is a Lyndex collet. One was in a square plastic tube branded TMX, al least that's what I think it is. Can't read it very well since it's blurry. The other two were in Styrofoam surrounds with no evidence of the brand. See pictures below.

In the picture with the ends of the collet showing:

The top left is what I suspect to be the fake Lyndex collet. It came in a Lyndex box but the build is not even close to the one that is labeled as being Lyndex (the top right).
The center one is the one that appears to be labeled TMX.
The bottom left is one of the no-name ones made especially for me by my good friend Neal Skokie from Germany.
The bottom right is the other no-name one made especially for me by my other good friend Kent Van Nuys also from Germany.

What a cluster 'f'.

If they meet the TIR stated on Wholesale Tools web page for the RDX brand then I guess I'll be satisfied. Although I won't be able to test the runout until I get the mill which will likely be past the return time.  Chin

I can easily pick out my Lyndex collets from the others just by looking at the drawbar end of the collets. They use an insert for the threaded portion that adds quite a bit of weight to the collet as well.

That's strange. The one collet marked as Lyndex does not have the insert. Three out of the five do though.

All of my Lyndex collets look like the one on the upper left and have the stake marks that show in the keyway. My cheaper Enco collets all look like the one in the center. They are much lighter compared to the Lyndex.

I bought some in between sizes that I was missing several years after I bought my first batch. They all look the same from the back end.

I'd be sending an email and following it up with a WTF call...

Yup, that's what I plan on doing.

Got a call from Wholesale Tools. He explained the situation with the collets and that I could return them for a full refund and wait for the RDX precision collets that I ordered to arrive which would be the May time frame. I told him I really didn't care what brand they were as long as they met the spec for the run-out of the RDX precision collets. I told him I'd like to hang on to the ones they sent and do some measurements and if they met the spec I'd keep them. He gave me 60 days to do the measurements so I think that's very fair. Two thumbs up for their customer service.  Thumbsup
