Personally I think alignment is the most important issue regarding digital scales. Just make sure they are as lined up with the axis as possible as I know you will.

Yup, I've installed DROs before. Alignment is especially important with magnetic scales. They're more fussy about alignment than glass scales are.

Any follow up on this? I have long wanted to get a set, but I know next to nothing about them, so I have no way to know what to buy.

I haven't stepped foot in my shop for many days so no real progress other than a bracket I was making for the DRO is still in the mill vice, almost done. I've been busy helping my brother with his move from Arizona to Tennessee. They left Saturday so I can finally get back into the shop.

Won't be long now Roger. Got the scales cut to length and mounted. I still need to align them after I get the read heads installed. That's for tomorrow.

Ran into a few snags mounting the read heads. Hopefully I'll get them sorted out today.

X axis is functional.  Smiley-dancenana
Still need to set up an indicator and make sure the DRO is displaying the proper numbers.

The Y axis is now working. I need to do some final alignment though.

Looking good. Graemlin
I went to Lowe's today to pick up some 1.5" angle aluminum to make the scale guards. Got the X one installed. I'll deal with the Y one tomorrow.
I'm going to 3D print some end caps for them.
