Here's a little video I made showing how to indicate a milling vise in just one pass.

Next time I need to line up my vice I'm gonna try that!
I am going to try that now

Big Grin Seriously cool Tom. Worthy Thanks for the vid. I'll be giving that a BIG try once I get the mill set up.

A helmet cam has been suggested as well but that would never fly with my wife. She gets upset when I wear a head lamp. Smiley-nono
Such a simple concept. Definitely going to try that out.

Well done. Thumbsup

Thanks Ed.

Simple concepts are about all I can handle. Blink

So if you don't have a swivel base (or don't have it installed) will this technique still work? Could you have the vice swivel about one of the lock down bolts? It looks so easy on the video that if I had to I could just about talk myself into buying the swivel base for my vise.

Great "how to" thanks.

Thanks Dan.

I don't know how well it will work without a swivel base, I've always had them on my vises. Why don't you try it out and let us know? It sounds like it might work leaving one bolt loose.
