Possibly, but the machine it's to be used on has a rather slow top limit on spindle speed. The head itself is rated for 12,000rpm, they got 4,500 max. Those heads are super well balanced, I think they'll be OK or I would have refused to do it. It's only boring out .02" (0.5mm) on diameter.

It was leaking as the result of the type of quick change fitting that came on the compressor and the cheap fittings I got from Menards for the air hose. I ended up going to Runnings Fleet and Farm and got all new, made in the USA type 'M' Milton fittings for the compressor and the air hose. No more leaks. I chucked the old fitting into the trash where they belong.

I need to do something like that with mine. It leaks down slowly with the hose disconnected, even faster with it plugged in. Leaks you can't hear, but obviously there.

Somewhere.
A spray bottle with some soapy water in it will help

Yup, as soon as I can get a round tuit.

Windex, in the hand pump dispenser, already mixed.

Yes - but if the wife catches you with it, she will know that you know where the cleaning products are and will then expect that you use them (properly) in the house. If you go with Windex, buy your own bottle and hide it in the shop...
I don't know that Windex would work nearly as well as a little dish detergent. The latter really foams up well, and I don't have nor use Windex anymore. For glass I found Sprayway Glass Cleaner to be the best I've ever used, and it comes out as white foam anyhow.

Dish detergent, my son Brian has plenty of it right there and God knows he rarely uses it for washing dishes. Rolleyes
My friend, Julian, who builds some amazing motorcycles, got a smokin' deal on a CNC Tree 325 (iirc).

He asked me to help him shift it out of the current owner's garage to save a bunch of money on the riggers.  So I swung by my local metal supply place, bought a stick of 1.25" solid round, and had them cut it into four 5' pieces.  I bought my pinch bar, and a stack of 18" wedges cut from Eastern Pine 4x4 (it's more dense compared to the wood we get here in CA).

Long story short, we got the mill rotated parallel with the driveway, scooted out under the garage door, and in a controlled manner, rolled down the slightly inclined driveway by using the wedges as brakes.

Nobody lost a finger, the mill still has all it's dials and cabinets, and the riggers can just hook a crane to the lifting eyes and put it on the flatbed.  Success!
hi all
not posted on this thread before, but as it keeps me entertained most days, I thought id share something ive been messing at
some of you may of remembered a previous post of mine, I bought an old lathe. er
[Image: lathe1.jpg]

Well, said lathe is still not running! its an inbetween jobs project, so Ive been slowly getting it ready for use.
Ive done the usual bits and peaces but I thought id share the electrolysis method for cleaning the old rusty 4 jaw (seen on floor)

gas bottle = sacrificial material,
positively charged with 12v dc battery charger,
non conductive Brick for seperation
Sodium Carbonate Decahydrate (aka 'Soda Crystals from local grocery shop)

said chuck (negative charge)

positive charge to bottle, 2 hours
[Image: 3.jpg]

24 hours
[Image: 4.jpg]

a bit of dissasembly, reassembly, another charged dip for a few hours
[Image: 5.jpg]

clean, then dip in fresh engine oil (to stop it rusting again) very pleased with results.
Hello there your Highness

Thanks for this thread. Nice progressive pics. Have seen other Guys talk about "Electrolysis" method for de-rusting but never got down to studying it. Would love to try it though as we have quite a few items which need cleaning.
However, would appreciate a bit more detail on Your actual method please.
Pray do tell on Your battery connections etc
Thanks in advance
regards
