Tom, I could probably get you a close chemical analysis if you wanted to ship a small sample to Afghanistan
We have a machine that uses Raman Spectroscopy technology or something like that that can tell me what's in it. I could always try to bribe the guys up at KAF to get them to use their more advanced equipment too. I need maybe ten drops is all.
Hi
Lads
Found this and many like it on the net
I have tried many different kinds of lubricants for lathe centers and as yet I have found nothing equal to white lead mixed with sperm oil, with enough graphite added to give it a dark lead color
Do not lick your fingers after use
John
Elijah, Is "Raman Spectroscopy an advanced inspection of Ramen noodles
Ooops, I just noticed the Raman/ Ramen slip
well don.t use rokol taping fluid as a cutting oil on the lathe i did once and me chuck rusted up it contains sulfur i use ether neat White water or me own mix of atf paraffin i got sum broaching oil from tool station and that seems OK any one out their use stp engine tenement the thick stuff well if you do keep the used tin and let it drain over night in to a container with a lid its good for putting on your hafe centers for it to run on
I have a small flat tin of a dark grease like material that just might be the white lead/sperm oil/graphite combination, I imagine it is about the same heavy grease like consistency, I will try it for that use. tom

I found one such bottle when cleaning out my Dad's workshop. Couldn't identify it by the colour, feel or smell, so I took a swig. Still couldn't figure it out. Then later that day when I got home and showered, I had an urge to put on my wifes clothes
Then it became clear - it was tranny fluid
Bet your wife was glad you had showered.

I mix it in with the black cutting oil at times to thicken it up and make it stay in place on the ends when doing facing
