Bill, I admire the time you have to "give things a shot" it prolly woulda taken me three days to make that, even with a spec. drawing.
I too have a power tapper, It's an Autal I have used it often on jobs that require lots of tapping.
Normally I do this whenever I feel I need a bit more "guidance than hand tapping.

Time is what I have the most of. I retired Jan. 21, 1995.
There's about 7 hrs. total in it, give or take a couple. I didn't have an urgent need for it so I worked on it whenever I saw it in the shelf.

Ya, Bill, time is what I have of the most of too, 'cept energy and drive seem to have slipped below "time".
I retired In 2001 and find the drive seems to have tapered off dramatically. When I was working 37½ hrs. a week and driving 10 hrs, a week to and from, I had time to do lots of projects.
I'm doing fewer projects in more available time now.
However, on the bright side, I'm dreaming up way more projects than I'll EVER have time for.

I don't have anything as fancy as the nice homemade tapper shown, the closest I can come to that is the Grizzly # T10057 Tapper (with a MT#2 taper), I bought in May 2011. It works real good and obviously it used with the drill press under power. Downward pressure on the quill handle, causes the tap to turn clockwise and upward pressure, cause it to turn counterclockwise (anti-clockwise for some).

Could you give a little more feedback on your Grizzly tapper. The price is sure good. Always wanted one but not bad enough to justify the normal cost.
