Just data points I guess, given that I have an assortment of colors.
On the ESAB 875 plama cutter the clamp appears to be a robust jumper cable clamp*, possibly steel plated copper clamp but the plasma cutter doesn't require a lot of current compared to the welders ...
On the Miller Dynasty 350 tig has a significant steel clamp with robust copper pads ...
On the Lincoln Power Mig 300, again a significant steel clamp with large copper pads ...
* Those of you in the colder climates will understand the term. Those in warmer areas may have to look it up

I had to go out to the garage with a file to find out if the clamp on my MM180 was copper plated steel. It is, but it seems robust enough for me.
But there is evidence of arcing.

That's exactly what I have to do to open the replacement clamp I got for my welder. That's why I haven't installed it yet but now that I see evidence of arcing on the existing clamp, I think it's time to revert to looking like a four year old, again.

For some reason I can't seem to upload more than one photo at a time , it says they are too large , ( haven't heard that for a while:) ,anyway here's another one of the shop , mustang is for one of my kids , stage 3 Roush supercharger and a few other tricks , approx.750HP .
