More small tools as we go along .Sorry about the cost of the protractor, Perhaps you could mug a student? or steal from the kids.

Now the painful part the clock has 5 gears 2 escapement wheels and a ratchet that must be made of engraving quality brass , well the ratchet possibly could be steel!!! it goes against the grain to spend money but its a must.
So we will start with the simplest one.
The ratchet only has 10 teeth and the back slope is cut by hand.

Brian,
How thick is the brass? And how do you cut those slots? Do you start at the top and "nibble" you way down or is it full depth and one pass?

The blank is 1/16" thick Dave and it was cut in one pass.

Looking at the pics those slots don't seem to be on a centre line are they offset?

Mr. Goldberg would be right proud! It is amazing what can be done with minimal tooling and a little ingenuity.

I'm assuming that there will be some plans at some point to help build the clock with?
nice work, clocks have always fascinated me ever since I took mom's alarm clock apart and didn't get it back together just exactly right for some reason it would skip a couple hours during the day

Hi Dallen
This clock is the prototype to work out any bugs. I am taking loads of photos and will write full instructions on its build including plans.
In accordance with the name of this article they will be inexpensive. and I will also give a consulting service to those who require help.
I am open to any suggestions.
