hi thers a world of pane regarding metel types grades and use as most of us this is a hobby and most of the things we will mack is for awher selves and not run for hawers at a time then ther is pepel that do ther own castings haw do they grade ther castings ? any one seen fred dibner and his wheel bering desaster
for thows that don't he got a lump of brass from a scrap yard for his wheel bering turnd out to be the rong brass and was wering his frunt axel out the only tip i can give is not to run the same metel a ganst each
other and if it dus wher out think of the fun making a new one

I have found that 99% of jobs in a home shop require no specific materials to use at all. You are there to enjoy yourself, not worry all the time if you have got a number in the right place.

My two's

Brass, yellow or red, one that can be polished after machining, one for bearings.

Ali, drawn or cast, whichever I can get hold of.

Steel, rusty (normal), non rusty after two weeks standing outside in the rain (stainless)

Mix 'n match as required.
