Ed, what is the model number of that height gauge? I'm not seeing anything like it at Enco. 17428 17428 17428

It is in the Outlet catalog ... http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INLMPI?PMPANO=0682202&PMKBNO=3152&PMPAGE=10 ... DL328-6215,

Thanks Arvid. I saw that one but the picture in the catalog doesn't look anything like Ed's picture. I hate it when they substitute a different version and don't update the catalogs. The one in the catalog looks closer to my Harbor Freight height gauge. What you see is what you should get IMO. Ouch

I was just curious about the manual and was going to look it up online, but it looks like they only provide machine manuals on-line. Sad

Batteries in these digital wonders can be a problem. I have a $20 caliper that is dead every other time I look at it. A $45 caliper goes for a year, never have to turn it off, always ready when I need it. How does one tell a battery gobbler from a battery miser?

The one you did not throw in the trash out of frustration is the battery miser. Smile

With my luck I'd throw the battery miser in the trash Bash.

The first Mitutoyo digi-cal I had turned itself off after a decent length of time. I hate going into the shop the next day and pick up the digi-cal only to find I had left it on the last time I was in the shop. Slaphead

Lads....

I personally am not a fan on electronic digital tooling, not because of accuracy issues but more that they flicker!, i find when i am trying to land a size or measure a size the flicker takes away my concentration, it also introduces an element of doubt.

I do not own a digital height gage but i would buy one just for the zero feature it has, that in my mind is its most redeeming value.

As to using a Vernier scale i always slide over to a table where i have a magnifying glass set up, this way i can concentrate where all the little lines fall on the scale.

There is one type of digital readout out i like but they are not all that common, I have a micrometer that has a set of wheels with numbers on them and it runs round to show the size, much like an old car odometer, it even shows 1/2 thou, beacuse the number shown is halfway to sowing full, its interesting as to when i see the number between its value i count that as a reading but when my electronic digital vernier flickers between the size i discount it as a flaw.

Enjoy your purchase sir.

Anthony.....

Great. Something else to watch out for. Neither of my digital calipers flicker.

RE: Import Height Gauge - EdK - 08-18-2013

Neither does this height gauge. At least I've not encountered any flicker yet.

My cheap (real cheap) no-name digital calipers flicker but not my Mitutoyo 500.196.20 Digimatic Absolute ones. They have been rock solid.
