After reading back through this I need to make a correction. I chucked a piece of round cold rolled steel and turned it down to just a bit more than .500" or so, THEN put the .500" ER32 collet on it and set the taper angle.
In other words you want to very slightly expand the collet before you use a dial indicator to set the cross slide angle.

I think you need a new DTI the one in the video must be broken DroolDroolDroolDroolDroolDroolDrool
