Hi Tom.

The crank will be built up on a one piece shaft and the center cut out when its all in line, the drawing shows the center between the webs still in place. I will probably put in the keyway's for the flywheels and screwcut the retaining threads before removing this section,
A lot of thinking to do before cutting metal. meanwhile I am moving on with the connecting rod.

Brian.

The connecting rod blank was set up in the mill and the holes for the cap bolts drilled,
The cap end was then cut off.

[attachment=9424]

The cap blank was made the correct size and the rod blank trimmed.

[attachment=9425]

The cap blank was reunited with the rod blank and using a series on slotting drills the bore was opened to 16mm
BUT on measuring it was 15.5 ***?- chinky cheap tools.

[attachment=9426]

Luckily I had not moved the X Y so i fitted the boring head to finish the job.

Now waiting for the next stage.

After drilling the small end the rotary table was fitted along with a pin to fit the small end  and the OD milled to shape.

The sides milled to shape.

Just needs a clean up.

Hi all
the alloy is 5083 I hope it will be strong enough it will have a bronze big end bearing with a positive oil feed through the crank pin.
Getting material is a big problem for me local suppliers' only have Black steel that is awful to turn but lots of stainless because of the marine -- olive oil and wine industry
