Brian, that material looks like copper? Is that suitable for a bearing?

RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - Brian - 12-17-2014

Hi Steve

Thanks for the heads up, it was ordered and delivered as PB 102 phosphor bronze,  it looks red but is very hard. not sticky to cut like copper.

Here are the photo's of the finished article .

To lube the big end a drip feed oiler will supply oil to the outside of the crank flange centrifugal force will spin it out into the collector ring and then pass it into the bearing,

Hopefully good lube with less mess.

Fiddly jobs today,  balance the crank, and fit the pins to the connecting rod, Only the threads to retain the flywheels and the keyways to do and the crank can be assembled and pinned,

Boy will that ever be a relief !!!!

Nice work Brian.

How are you planning to pin the crank? Axial dowel pins on the mating diameters?

Tom

RE: 32x40 H Gas Engine - Brian - 12-19-2014

Yes Tom 4mm drill rod double shear on the mains and single shear on the big end. assembled with Loctite.
that will have to wait until I return.

Brian.

Hi All
Back from windy Scotland  to a freezing cold Sicily, now that just ain't right.
however I returned with two 1/2 X 20 nuts for the flywheels so it's time to threads the crank ends.

Then cut the keyways for the flywheels

Not long until we have to assemble the crank Yikes
