Set the main shaft in place today. The boiler is fastened down, but the engine is just sitting there for now.

Started framing the lower cabin.

Made the rafters for the cabin today. Cut a 1 inch crown in them to shed water.
Dr Bill cut the logs and sawed the lumber for the cabin sides and roof. Not bad for 86.

Where the shafts come out the sides.. Waterwheel drive?

RE: Building an Aligator - f350ca - 10-06-2015

Yep, the paddle wheels slide onto those shafts. They will be 8 feet in dia, the blades 8 blades are 16 inch wide and 12 inches deep.

It must be gratifying to see that big long shaft you made in your shop sitting there, ready for action. It sure looks good!

You fellas just can't get enough of building stuff, can you? I mean that in the best way possible. :)

Greg's probably going to use it to salvage 200 year old logs from the bottom of the lakes and rivers in the area so he can saw them up into lumber to use in his cabinet building.

I was planning it Darren, are you sure there's enough trees along the way to feed the boiler?

Haven't posted this one in a while.
Have the cabin roof on and some safety rails.
