Flaring the conical end of a metal ring - DLANDINO - 06-19-2014

I have a question about metal working and I was wondering if you have any idea of a tool or tools that can be used to flare out the tapered end of a metal ring. I started making rings out of silver US and foreign coins as a hobby and it seems that people love them. So when I poke a hole in the ring and bang it down a mandrel the ring ends up being conical in shape until you flare out the narrow end. I have been using a dapping block to do this but can damage the ring if not done right. I was searching for a hand operated tool that can widen the narrow part. This is an example of the work I have been doing so you can see what I am talking about. [Image: 96B356B0-074C-456F-952F-87A5DC92E4B6_zpsi6nhu8vf.jpg]

Humm, like a hand held tool that is adjustable?

Could be built like a can opener with three rollers, the more you squeeze the handles the smaller the circle. or on the edge to flair it.

I was going to suggest a roller as well, but it would take something a little special. I assume you are starting with a washer shaped piece and forming it into a cylinder, so it would take three rollers with the center one able to tip a bit to put more pressure on the inside edge of the washer than the outside, to raise the it into the cylinder shape. You have raised my curiosity, so I may be forced to try it out.
