Why not do as I said some while back - arrange a pair of axles and run the gears outside the head stock - see how they run. Arrange a load on the shaft - see how they run. Abuse them a bit - see how they run - THEN take decisions whether to replace or not dependent on the facts that you ascertain rather than your fears.
