RE: Coke Forge Build - hermetic - 05-12-2015

Hi Rob

"School of life Phil , no formal training"
Well now I am gobsmacked, I thought you had been on a 7 year stint at Vickers at the very least, Your skill and finish is outstanding, I am just popping out to the woodshed to cut my hands off! Edison said "Inspiration can be found in a pile of junk. Sometimes, you can put it together with a good imagination and invent something". Today I have been looking for inspiration, when it would have appeared to anyone walking into the workshop that i was kneeling in the midst of a pile of junk. But I enjoyed it, and I'll be damned if he aint right! Its all coming together!
Phil

Hi Rob, What am I making, at the moment....................A Mess! I managed to rescue this from my back garden, and get it onto the workshop yard for extra storage, but at the moment I am still in "everything must go" mode!

RE: Coke Forge Build - hermetic - 05-13-2015

As you see, my yard is quite steep, over the years that slope has tried to kill me on several occasions, but it can get hairy!

I think I may use the MIG for a tad of stick welding at the weekend .  Chin , use it to weld four pads onto the bottom of the stand legs .

Hello, Mr. Wilson.

I'm an obvious newbie.
Your welds look amazing.  I did a bit in college, certainly not up to those standards.
Stainless for the forge?
Would you really want to get it dirty?
Think it should go on the mantle, no?

Hi and welcome to Metalworkingfun GM ,

oh yes I will surely get it all black and crispy , tools are to be used  Big Grin

Quote:Stainless for the forge?

Yes , but only because I have it and it was free , I would have used any type of pipe as long as it was to correct size for the job . well near enough the correct size lol  .

My projects work like this , first off wake up with some brain fart   Chin , like I need to build/make X  , then spend a few months sometimes years collecting scrap materials to do the job .

See mostly made from junk pulled from skips .
