Quite a wile ago now I saved a old Colchester lathe dated 1918-1919 its been in a barn for 20 years left to rust

Just thought it may be of interest to some members

Anyway here is a link to the before and after with a lot of TLC

Fabulous work, and I bet you enjoyed it too. Don't knock it till you've tried it, I bet that old girl is more accurate than you think. Accuracy is a matter of knowing your machine and sneaking up on finished size before it notices you are there! I have a MK1 colchester student, and a Covmac that is very much like that machine! I wait with baited breath for the video of you making swarf with it!

Looks likecyou have made a cracking job thereWorthy It now looks like it was cared for from new, rather than neglected then refurbished. Did you just paint various bits and clean up paintwork where posible.

Cheers Mick

Did you strip it down, or just clean it as it stood there? Whichever you have made a fantastic machine out of it, and TBH it doesnt look to have had that much use. I really like the colour, I am a real sucker for red stuff!

I took off the tailstock and compound slide plus the cross slide

I just cleaned the bed ways little by little only moving the saddle onto clean oiled ways until all was clean hours and hours but loved every minute
