Believe it or not, that housing is also a lift point for hoisting the grinder.

I'm not sure that I would lift on that. The manual shows the lifting points to be the two hex pegs screwed into each side.

I hear ya. But here's a snapshot from the book.. I used the lugs to take most of the weight, and that housing to balance with a come-a-long.

Ha. While reading that manual I saw a maintenance note saying to remove the table and clean the ways WEEKLY.

How about: never? Mine was full of dried grit when I got it. I cleaned it then and not since.

Wasn't doubting you Sunset and I still think this is where I would go against the manufacturer's recommendation. I'm sure my machine is out of warranty should something go wrong Big Grin

I was pretty surprised to read that. Like you say, it just looks BAD. Grinders are heavy and that cast housing is held by three little screws.

Does yours have hardened way strips on (under) the table? I think they come from a rebuild, not factory. They look like they're glued on with something red. Shellac?

Not that I can tell. It appears to be all original (apart from the crossfeed handle and tip of the leadscrew). There are some pictures on the second page of this thread.

Darren, did that wheel arbor you got fit on this grinder? I sure hope so!

I haven't tried it yet. I forgot to take it with me last weekend. I will try it out on Saturday. What is your return policy if it doesn't fit? Big Grin
