welding 303 to 316 stainless?? - jawnn - 03-09-2015

Is it possible to weld 303 stainless to 316? or maybe I will just have to thread it. sounds bad.

I know 304 and 316 play nice together, they're common materials in performance exhaust systems.

316 is also the preferred rod for 304.

303 is generally considered unweldable because of its sulfur content. It may improve if joined with 316 due to mixing in the weld, but I wouldn't bet on it.

What Tom said. I've never seen 303 successfully welded to anything.
