Good progress Brian. Has the cylinder in the back been blackened?

Tom

Hi Tom.
I think it's just the lighting Tom it certainly does look darker in the photographs, I intend to oil black the parts when I can lay my hands on some suitably dirty mineral oil .most engines use synthetic these days .

The Bronze for the valve cages is due later this week, and while i was waiting Have purchased a inside mic to help get the size

Mean while just to keep the hands from seizing up due to lack of work I have made a valve seat cutter from silver steel

Brian, if you can get some oil from a diesel, it will stain more than anything else. At least, it works that way on denim.

Hi Mike
When I go on the scrounge to my local one man garage I take with me the latest part's I have made
I get all the help I need and more so I am waiting until the cages are in  then a visit will be in order.

One cage made for the first head,  the other will be made tomorrow, final machining will be after fitting in case of distortion.

It had to happen eventually Murphy got his hands around my pea sized brain and squeezed hard. and I made a total up of fitting the valve cages in NO1 head and ruined it.
So a rethink is on the cards and a new head to be made.
Peace and good will to you all Brian.

Don't beat yourself too hard -- happens to the best of us.... and the rest of us.

I had a fabrication job today which had mirrored pairs of assemblies. Got half-way through the second of four assemblies and realized I'd made 2 lefts. Fortunately, there was enough material in the leftovers to recover gracefully.

My uncle always said that the only people who never make mistakes are those who never make anything. And he's the most prolific craftsman I've ever known, so I'm sure he's made a lot of them.

It is only a mistake if you fail to learn from it.
