Thanks Vinny, I just wondered - my house is all done in conduit (plastic).

The first piece is finally down the basement.

I have a question about removing the head. Is anyone familiar with the step pulley Bridgeport mill? I want to remove the head next and I'm thinking I can just remove the four bolts on the front and slide the head forward to remove it. Is that true or is there more to it?

That's all there is to it Ed, except that it is surprisingly heavy. Do you have a lift?

Thanks Tom. Yes, I have a cherry picker. How to grab on to the head is going to be tricky but I'll figure something out.

Just be mindful of the bevel gear and worm behind the head. Try to keep the head level and come straight out with it so it's not flopping around like a fish. Smile

Maybe like the shipping position, upside down and on a small wood pallet that you can sling with the hoist?

Hmmm, that's a good thought. Chin

It was cold out in the garage today so I got a heater to help take the chill out of the air. I got the cherry picker up into the garage and all assembled so it's ready to do its job. I think I have a plan for getting the head off. It's supposed to be in the 30s F tomorrow so it will be more tolerable than it was today. Hopefully I'll get the head and ram off tomorrow without incident. Sweat

Set up the way you have it in the last photo Ed, with the head sitting on the table. You should be able to hook up the hoist to stabilize it and retract the arm on the column till the studs are clear.
