Finally finished up with the mounting holes. I took my time to align the centre finder to make sure that the holes matched with those on the spindle flange.

Installing the transfer screws. They were protruding so much just for photo shoot. I centre punch them to make the mark deeper.

The 3 holes completed. I've to re-position the job for each hole due to insufficient travel on the Y axis.

Testing that the holes matched up nicely.

Turning on the lathe to see if the job wobbles. Not too bad, I think.

Counterbore done with a counterbore bit. Alignment was a breeze with the pilot at the end.

The cap screws sitting just a hair below the surface.

I'm rather happy with the result so far. I've more pics over at my site at http://www.wongstersproduction.com. Got to go to bed soon as I'll be leaving for Bangkok in the morning with the family and some business partners. Will be back next week for more fun in the shop.

hi Wong a brill bit of work gowning on their I'm well impressed right for the bad bit you used the wrong type of drill to mark you center with you need to use a center drill for a running center not a spot drill as the running center will not sit right in the job a spot drill is used for the start of a normal drill

RE: ER32 Collet Chuck for Proxxon PD 400 - Wongster - 05-30-2012

Thanks guys. I'm still not done with the job so let's see if I can have a finished project. Big Grin

DaveH, newbie still, till I get a few more projects under my belt Sweat I'll remember the registration mark.

John, first class? Sadno no even close. The piece looks rather ugly. Think I need to import the camera or lens used by some here Worthy I'll try to enjoy the threads and the taper. They get me nervous just thinking about them...

krv3000, I did this Bash many times when I realized my mistake. Thank God it was still early in the project. That mistake has been etched in my mind which formed part of my "experience".

I will continue with my work after returning from the trip.

Wabeco has also finally replied. Ordering a machine on my own is such a pain though I pay a little lesser than through a dealer here, if there is one... Well, I'm looking forward to the mill as it took awfully long for even the holes on the sherline. I'll also be getting a small 3D printer (The Portebee) next week to play with.

Regards to all,
Wong

Lolz... Thanks Rob. Taken that pic from the company's intranet.

I'm thinking of deepening the counterbores a little more so that I can square off the flange. Do you folks think its necessary? Also, the bolts I bought are too long. Tried holding them on the chuck with some nuts. Kept running back. If I'm to Loctite them onto the nuts and later apply heat to remove, will the leftover Loctite fouled the cap screws? Otherwise, I'll go get shorter M6 cap screws when I'm back.

Regards,
Wong

Wong,

If the head of the screw is too long, you can shorten it by cutting some off.

Nice chamfer, bit of fine emery they will look nice and shiny Thumbsup
