I haven't researched this exhaustively, but for my D1-5 spindle (6 pins) the cheapest known source of pins is to purchase an entire back plate from Shars, and either use the plate as is, or cannibalize its pins for a special shop-built plate:

D1-5 6" backplate $63.95 (US)

D1-3 6" backplate $58.00 (US)

Hi,
That's what I had to do, buy a D1-4 adapter plate. No one here in SA sells the pins separate. I could have purchased them from the UK or the US but by the time I had paid for the postage there wasn't much difference in the cost.

Nice job Dave, and good to see you take the camera out in the shed,

I have the back plate but need to make one myself.

Source for individual D1 mount pins. At the D1-5 level and above (at least), the cost of a full set (versus scavenging a set from an import adapter plate) is prohibitive.

(prices in US $)
D1-3 stud: $12.32
D1-4 stud: $10.80
D1-5 stud: $24.00
