The video clip makes the problem crystal clear
Not sure how to fix it ,i am surprised at the answer given by the manufacturer
Is there no tolerance on the tail stock end mounting of the lead screw

I blew it! I complimented the video documentaion without actually absorbing it. I've neever seen a lathe with the rack below the feedscrew.:@Sorry!

That's usually called the carriage hand-wheel. The apron contains the hand-wheel assembly. The carriage assembly is made up of the apron and saddle assemblies.

Good stuff! Thanks Ed. I knew I got it wrong. So the thing that slides on the bed is the saddle. The apron is attached to it to make the carriage assembly.

A reader of my blog (Frank) commented that he suspects the movement in the lead screw is to take up play. He added that there isn't much to be done to the half nut. He owns the same lathe.

Dave,
I merely reassemble the parts, moved the carriage to various point, engaged the half nut and tighten the apron. The place to tighten the apron screws that gave the best overall feel when turning the lead screw handwheel is at the spindle end.
Now I turn using either under power or the carriage handwheel.
