I ran across someone else in a comment section yesterday when the name McMaster-Carr popped up. I mentioned the drill chuck arbor incident we went through recently and this was his reply:

Quote:That's very interesting. Oct 2020 I ordered a straight shank -> Jacobs taper arbor from McMaster. They had previously sent me Jacobs, Made in England, for the same part number. This time it arrived unbranded, had a grinding hollow on the side of the shank large enough to make it unusable. I wonder if that's where they removed the embarrassing source name. They offered to replace it. It told them no thanks and took a refund. Found a NOS Jacobs on eBay.

Interesting indeed.
