Very nice job, I watch with envy, perhaps one day after I retire if I live that long I will be able to get into doing the many things I have planned of which casting in brass alum and cast iron are planned. Really enjoy your posts. tom

I showed this thread to my 14yo daughter and her response was, "Wow dad! That is so cool! You should do that!" Big Grin

Hello John,

Looks great, especially for a casting that big
Just My curiosity, what sand mix did you use?
Best Regards
Rick

RE: Steam Engine Base Pattern - doubleboost - 08-06-2012

Hi
Rick
The sand is just ordinary green sand i get it from a local foundry
They call it" Mansfield Red".
So i presume it comes from Mansfield

Thanks John,
The stuff I used to get from my local foundry (which is not at all local now, Australia) was always very black, hence the question, they used to let me use it and then bring it back and run it through the mill for reuse.
Best regards
Rick
