I concur with arvid regarding the state of the turbo seals.
Darren, are there any other bits of plastic on the engine that show signs of melting? Sensors or wiring connectors on the engine etc.?
From the looks of that idler I would bet that engine got HOT since the bearing is still free running. I would go over the cooling system with a fine tooth comb. Water pump, radiator, etc. And be sure to check the deck surface with a straight edge for warpage. Any traces between the cylinders and the cooling jacket ports deserve much scrutiny. I've seen engines that got hot enough to melt the timing belt covers too.

Well
just got in from milling 2 tangential tool holders. interesting setting up for 12' in 2 dimensions. Now need to make a sharpening jig for the grinder and try it out!
Then decided to open out the slots on the "new" Boxford MD4 pillar drill table so I can use my existing hold down t nuts etc. Went well and didn't break a cutter today ( big improvement on last week when milling the slots for the tool bit in the holders- 2 cutters broken, both through over enthusiasm- live and learn).

I was turning the spindle shaft for my countershaft project today and though I would try turning between centres (I know, I can't believe I have never tried this before either) anyways to cut a short story even shorter, I tweaked my tailstock a bit and was able to get slightly less than 1/2 thousand difference between ends. I though that was pretty darn impressive for a lathe that's been around for 60 years or so.

Prints for the Die Filer are done. I will get them copied and off to Ed this week. There are 24 pages.

Is there a gamble going on if Ed can put them on CAD as fast or faster than Billy G put them on paper by hand?

been working on this the last couple of days, today was making the hammer which I filed the square hole one stroke of the file too big
