Start of my furnace - Mayhem - 02-26-2012

This is going to be a very slowly updated thread but I was cleaning some pics of off my phone and found these two.

So I thought I would post them before they get deleted. That is the beer keg I am going to make my furnace out of being held in the 14" chuck on my lathe. I had originally planned to use the lathe to part the keg but was so disappointed to find that my cross slide is just a fraction to high. There is literally a 1/2" between the vision and reality :(

I ended up using the plasma cutter Big Grin Well this is my starting point and I am looking toward Rob and John and their work to turn this keg into a furnace.

I gotta say, that's the first time I've ever seen a beer keg chucked up in a lathe. Smile

I'll be watching this thread with interest. Popcorn

Thanks. It is going to be a slow build, as I have so many other things that need my attention. The babbington burner needs to be finished first, so I know at what hight to insert the nozzle. I will update as I progress.
