I resemble that remark Steve.
Seriously, when I compared how long it takes me to clean off the bench and put everything away, and how quick it gets back to the same state, I realized how much time I was waisting cleaning. It seems to just stay at a certain level of disarray with little or no input on my behalf. Entropy I believe is the term, or is chaos , what ever it works.

Everything in my shop has a place in a drawer of cabinet with the exception of big things like vises, dividing heads and rotary tables. It doesn't always find its way back, but it does have a place. There is no way that I would have room to keep everything out.

I'm one of those people that sets a tool down and spends 10 minutes looking for it moments later. So, I have trained myself to put everything back in it's place as soon as possible to avoid the frustration. Drills go back in the index as soon as they come out of the chuck, and the index goes back in the drawer. Collets go back in the tube, and that goes into the tool cabinet. Very little gets left out, or it all becomes a jumble and covered in swarf, and makes cleanup a pain.

my problem lately is I can't rember where everythings place is and nor can my spouse so it seems as though we are continually searching for something. tom

Most of my stuff are on shelves in cupboards as the workshop can be quite damp. Lathe tools, punches and T handle drivers are notable exceptions that live out!

well all of my stuff is put a way at the end of the day

I read the thread title and was disappointed when I saw it wasn't instructions for doing the Hokey Pokey!

Almost all of my tools are kept in tool chests, filing cabinets, boxes etc. I have a selection of hand tools on my electronics bench that are on the wall (magnetic holder or pegs). Drills are kept in their indexes or in wooden blocks by the drill. Lathe tools in a dedicated cabinet.
