thanks something to think about . Now i have a good idea what ill do when i get to that project . Btw im taking on as a project and want to make the tool and part, than heat treat na i dont wnat to buy and parts esp for the free cheapo press that it is
..Looks like i have two options and both will work . Onc is to bolt stock on fixture / angle plate mill vertically. ill prob cut in mill with fly cutter rotate mill head 90 deg. Most likely ill cut similar to a large deep acme thread i once cut on lathe. Ill cut to full depth with one tool than come back with and cut the sides with a finishing tool.

While it's true that cutting a long rack on a vertical mill with a fly cutter is difficult because of interference with the head, it's not impossible.
I've never done this, but it's possible to hold the rack vertically, tilt the head to 30*, and grind your fly cutter with the correct shape to include the 30* offset. The rack should miss the head.
