5 Cylinder Radial

Well it's arrived the new Doodle has formed into something that may just work.
 5 cylinder's bore 25mm stroke 28 mm  overhead camshaft's.
 Suitable to be built on a 7X12 and a small mill. from bar stock. Jawdrop


   

More drawing to be done but I think I have it all clear in my head now.

Will that be a rotary or stationary crank engine? I've seen both running, and the stationary crank version is quite a show with all the cylinders whirring around.

Saw some of the stationary crank models at NAMES this weekend. The ones with chrome heads really attracted attention.

Hi all
This is a stationary cylinder type, the correct name is Radial.   The correct name for the ones that have a stationary crank is Rotary.
I intend start making chips next winter, I think it will take two to three years to make so I will be happy to have you all along to keep me company.
Off to the boat today so the drawings will have to wait.

Thanks for straightening me out on that. It makes sense.

I've also seen both because my nearby machining neighbor Rollie Gaucher has built both styles, plus the moving wooden mock-ups. Fascinating stuff, I sometimes wish I had the focus to take on such a thing but at least I'm honest with myself and don't bother starting.

Not radial but didnt Henry Ford R&D come up with a 5 cyl flathead ??

The gear case and drive to the cams are coming together.
   

   

Next job is the crank and accessory  drive.
 A long way to go yet.  so don't run out of beer and  chips.
