"Vice Hold Downs"
#12
Okay, took a while to get back with this but here it is. I know it's nothing like the Starrett 54C but the geometry of the opposite edges made me go 'hmmm' when I picked it up out of the scrap pile. I was wondering whether it may have been some other manufacturer's idea of the same principle? here's a few more views of the thing.

Whatever it is, it's probably going back in the scrap pile anyway. If it's part of some machine then I don't have one, and if it is intended as some kind of clamping device then it should have brought a partner. I had to take a couple of shelves full of unidentified junk in order to get the mill cutters I bought from a machine shop clearing sale, so much of it was obviously of use to someone at some time but is a total mystery to me- i.e. scrap. Dozens of obsolete carbide insert holders and the like.
