I just found this in an archive someplace from a guy named Harold:

Quote:The angle isn't for performance, it's to insure long life of the diamond. If the diamond is used at a fixed angle, regardless of the angle, a flat forms that isn't the best condition for a diamond to be used. As has been mentioned already, a diamond with a flat tends to dull the newly exposed abrasive bits. The angular mount allows for a change of attitude of the diamond. It is commonly accepted that diamonds are mounted in holders that provide the angle, although I am far more familiar with 10° than 15°.
