I went through that with the lead screw in my lathe tail stock. Metric diameter with an imperial pitch.
I just bought a slightly larger diameter of imperial acme rod (standard dimensions) and a new bronze nut and turned them to fit the tail stock.
I need to do this to make mine a smoother movement, just replace the lead screw. When you guys say thrust bearing, are you just meaning a bronze shim to take the slop out? Right? Your not actually using a roller bearing, are you?
