I also have a Manfrotto (sold as Bogen here in the US) tripod, mine is a #3030A. That one is probably a #3052. The stock hex plates are relatively cheap, so I would probably buy one rather than make it.
Tom, what view camera do you have? I have an old 4x5 Burke & James press camera with two lenses. One is a Schneider Angulon 90/6.8 in Synchro-Compur P shutter, the other a Wollensak 135/4.5. I haven't used it since I disassembled my fully equipped 10x16 darkroom. I had a Beseler 23XL and Omega D2XL enlargers on drop-table benches I made myself, and a 28" x 84" stainless steel sink I made. It was really well equipped to do everything from 20x24 archival black & white prints to 16x20 Cibachrome color prints and 20x24 C prints. I do miss it every now and then.
