I was given this tripod by a friend that figured I could fix it. it is one of those really heavy ones like the news guy's get to pack around. Anyway it had one leg with a broken hinge and was missing the camera shoe (plate that goes on the camera that locks into the tripod)
So I got a friend with the ability to weld aluminum to weld the leg hinge back together.
weld is bright shiny spot.

Then I made a new shoe. the screw that holds the camera on, I threaded it then cut the 1/4" of thread that are up against the head off so that once you screw it thru the plate it can't fall out and get lost.

top side of the shoe, covered it with some 1/8" thick red rubber I had laying around.

If I had enough stuff, I could anodize it.
In all I think I made out pretty good on the thing, got it for free and didn't have to pay anything to fix it.
